Love these takes and deep dives! RE the sports boom, one other huge factor is legal sports betting which in the last couple of years has completely transformed the sports landscape, both for men's and women's (mostly men's but now women's). With sports books now partnering with leagues (and even players), it's almost impossible to watch sports without gambling being part of the experience. This has supercharged the consumption of sports and fueled a marketing cottage industry around it, at hyper speed. I feel like we have yet to really understand the seamy underbelly of sports in a post-betting world.

Ugh - too true. There are literally back to back gambling ads in any sports program you watch these days. I fear the fallout from this phenomenon.

such a great point that I didn't even consider, thank you for shedding light on this!! it feels like an exploitation of the commercialization of sports... if that's even possible? I agree with Kristen that there could be pretty dire implications

This deep dive was epic! One partnership I noticed that was very cool is Charlotte Tilbury x F1 Academy (F1’s new program for female drivers). Super smart - performance of products and performance in sport, which makes total sense. Tons of storytelling potential and super relevant right now with F1’s popularity, particularly among women. Love this newsletter πŸ‘

yep! here are a couple:

From McKinsey (https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/consumer-packaged-goods/our-insights/still-feeling-good-the-us-wellness-market-continues-to-boom). "The wellness market is growing quickly. Overall, around 50 percent of US consumers now report wellness as a top priority in their day-to-day lives, a significant rise from 42 percent in 2020. Against the backdrop of COVID-19’s evolution from a global pandemic into an endemic disease, this increasing consumer focus on wellness looks set to continue."

From SWNS Digital, a survey of 2000 Americans conducted by NutriSystem and OnePoll (https://swnsdigital.com/us/2022/10/over-70-of-americans-are-more-conscious-of-their-physical-health-post-pandemic/): "Over 70% of Americans are more conscious of their physical health post-pandemic."
