Here's my thing with VS... I agree they are incredibly problematic in many ways. I have also always seen it as CAMP. Their whole thing is finding the "perfect" human specimens and making them even more impossibly unattainable by dressing them in dazzling, over-the-top costume lingerie. Nothing about VS has ever been realistic.

I know it seems archaic in a society that now demands inclusivity for everything, but imo they won't make a comeback by submitting to the inclusive framework. Fenty already did it and for VS to attempt that now would be 100% phoning it in.

I think their comeback will be in the form of sticking to the formula that made them the #1 lingerie brand in the world to begin with, which is to be incredibly aspirational and out of touch with a narrow focus on the beauty standard they helped define. People eat that sh*t up. We'll see!

fair points that they grew based on being aspirational / out of touch and even as our world gets more "inclusive" there will always be a market for that. maybe there's a middle ground, IDK?! if abercrombie could do it I feel like there's hope (but maybe VS doesn't want to pull an abercrombie).

Gosh I actually forgot VS still existed. The entire experience is so dated, the marketing, the stores, the brand and, actually, the product itself? Do people still wear diamante lingerie or have I just grown up?! The black glossy interior and overwhelmingly sweet scent in every store makes me shiver to this day. Would take a huge rebrand, but I'd love to see it!

I'm so conflicted about VS. My background is in inclusive fashion so I have a lot of thoughts on the matter. Part of me feels like when a brand tells you who they are, you should believe them. If they clearly do not care about representation until it becomes a hindrance to their bottom line, I'm not interested. BUT the other part of me recognizes that we need power players + mainstream brands to fully embrace inclusivity if it's going to truly become the norm. So I'm very torn. At the end of the day, having more representation is never bad, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see brands that were built on the idea of exclusivity now doing the bare minimum for "inclusive" brownie points with their audience.

I definitely identify with this feeling of being conflicted. At the end of the day, Victoria's Secret is problematic, but I what could potentially redeem them is finding a POV that isn't "the norm" or the bare minimum but actually feels right for THEIR brand. We need to see a full brand turnaround - from leadership and hiring practices, to products, to in-store experience, and of course the fashion show and brand look & feel. Similar to what Abercrombie did - if they can nail an identity that feels authentic, modern, and inclusive -- I think there's room for them.

I don't get the raw dogging flights thing. The best thing about flights is that you get to catch up on movies and books. People are being weird

it’s soooo weird tbh. I cannot for the life of me figure out why you’d want to to this. also what about plane snacks?!?!

Ok I'm guilty of never packing plane snacks myself πŸ™ˆ. I'll always have water and a good book but rarely snacks. I do love a good free plane meal or snack though if they are served.

Totally. This raw-dogging thing sounds like an actual nightmare. If I run out of things to read for ten minutes on a flight, I'm out of my mind.
